KTB

KTB (aka Katy Bennett) has been writing songs about elephants, vegetarianism and unrequited love since the age of 12. She released her critically acclaimed debut album ‘All Calm In Dreamland’ in 2002 [‘Gentle acoustics from the Nick Drake school… literate songs’ UNCUT, Jan 2003] and, later that same year, was a finalist at the BBC Young Folk Awards. .

Her second album, ‘Bluebird’, was recorded in and around a portacabin studio on a farm in rural Oxfordshire between the summer of 2004 and the spring of 2005 with her brother Joe (of the band Goldrush) producing. Its beautiful, heart-wrenching eleven and a half songs deal with those universal emotions of love, loss, despair, friendship and hope.

Sam Beer

Sam Beer is currently recording his first album Far From You. With one self-released EP behind him (Carrier Pigeon) Sam has gained an enviable reputation as a singer and musician with a unique and seemingly effortless playing style. As a songwriter his honest heartfelt creations have helped to establish him as one of the leading artists on the London folk/acoustic scene. He is a master of his trade and his songs appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes giving Sam the potential to be one of the most important singer/songwriters of his generation.

Birdengine

Birdengine is the name Mr Lawry Joseph Tilbury chooses to make music with. He hails from the Dorset countryside and began making music as a child. Venturing at night into the fields and forests surrounding his childhood home, with a broken nylon guitar, a record player and a couple of carefully scratched and doctored records, performing his ramshackle and melancholy sound for only himself, the woodland creatures and the moon.

He has since fled the countryside and moved to a nearby city but has managed to hold on to the eerie and pastoral sound that infiltrates his music. Recording only on a 4-track tape recorder and using a whole range of dictaphones, home-made tape loops and music boxes, he harbours a deep loathing for computers and digital equipment opting instead for the humble hiss of a tape cassette.

Based in Brighton and somewhat of a recluse, birdengine's live shows are rare and vary greatly, from purely electronic sets using toy keyboards with dying batteries and a tape recorder to sets with just nylon guitar, vocals and a cello. His body of work ranges from soft and slow waltzes to thick electronic dirges all retaining that distinctive weird, sad and isolated birdengine sound.

Jess Bryant

Reviews:

"I've never heard such a busy room so quiet listening to this."

"Jess Bryant has a voice that you wouldn't only die for, you'd probably kill for too. Eyes closed in concentration, the guitar emitting some at times discordant, yet strangely beautiful notes, Jess produces voluptuously full, rounded vocal sounds"

"Impossible to categorise, apart from under the "Utter Genius" category."

Jack Harris

Born in mid-Wales in 1986 and still going strong, he started writing songs at fourteen, having already played guitar for a number of years. He has played SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, as well as Green man festival, here in Britain. Was one of the six winners at the New Folk competition at Kerrville Folk Festival, Texas, and has recently received the PRS Foundation's ATOM award for new music"

Andrew Calhoun, Waterbug Records: "Jack Harris' mastery of the guitar and his passionate singing frame the delivery of some of the loveliest language in contemporary song. His subjects, often inspired by other works of art - a painting, a statue, a Greek myth - are filled with a yearning that transcends personal desire - he's a voice of regeneration, of sure kindness in the face of cruel realities.  Mr. Harris is a born poet, and it would be a mistake to say he is destined for greatness. He is already there."

Linda Silas, ACT House Concerts, Wylie, TX:
"I'm going to do all I can to get him back to Texas,"

Rosie Jones

Rosie Jones is a nineteen year old singer/songwriter with a weakness for acoustic guitars, harmonicas and handclaps. A lively, exciting clash between pop, rock, folk and country - Her music is the product of growing up in a tiny village in Devon where there wasn't really anything to do except sit around in her room and dream of being a famous rock star. Hense the title of her debut album Places I Have Never Been, which came out last year and is available at gigs and at rosiejones.org.
"Absolutely enchanting" (Big George, BBC Three Counties Radio)
"Rosie Jones' angst-ridden set had tonnes of knock-out energy and attitude" (North Devon Journal).
"Fantastic stuff, excellent."(James Watts, BBC Radio Devon)
"The 11-track debut takes listeners on a musical tour which encompasses passion, humour and raw emotion" (North Devon Gazette)
"A stunning debut. A CD that grabs your attention from the start and doesn't let your mind wonder" (Solo Music)
"Definitely one to keep an eye on. Sheer poetry." (FATEA Records)

Andy Buclaw

A fast growing Musician and Writer from Shropshire, Andy Buclaw is not just a run of the mill Singer-Songwriter. With a blood mix of English, Italian, Polish, Scottish and Irish, and the oldest of six brothers, Andy has an outlook on life that is dark and cynical and this outlook becomes evident within his lyrics. Combined with the natural ability to make the most of an instrument, a love of performing, an absent ego and words that are socially, politcally and emotionally driven by all manner of things in and out of the public domain, the words "Sirens are a good way to bring us together" chill on the back of your neck in a song about people being drawn to tragedy like a moth to a light, Andy is a unique songwriter in a genre full of romantics.

Toby Wainwright-Johns

Toby has a unique style as a solo singer/songwriter. He retains the edgy, punk rock ideals found in previous incarnations such as his band redshift, combining earthy melodies and ethereal shape shifting... ideal for anyone with a taste for the unusual.. Outsider music at its best! Inspirational music that will take the listener on journeys never before imagined!

PRESSED FLOWERS (2008) Finally Released! is Toby Wainwright Johns` finest hour to date! A mini album brimming with all of the intensity and emotion expected from Toby. This record also incorporates new, challenging dynamics and explores territories that have been left unopened previously.. A true Pandora`s box that will delve into the furthest reaches of the psyche.. Light and dark, Tragedy and comedy and beyond! Melodies that weave in and out of the consciousness, embedding themselves deep within your soul! This is definitely not new age. This is age old and primitive. Strange yet familiar... The theatre, the circus, within your own mind..

Elspeth Anne-Macrae

“She is a walking, talking contradiction, of jangly versus tuneful, mellow versus spikey, and waiflike versus all singing mama who plays her guitar like a demon." - Ally Hardy
